Food Not Bombs

Food not Bombs Victoria (FnB Victoria) has been part of the Anarchist Bookfair from its very beginning. This reflects a deep understanding on the part of both collectives that the work we do, though in some ways different, is deeply aligned and is part of the struggle for collective liberation.

Food not Bombs origins are within the anti-nuclear protest movement, at its core it is a protest and intervention against the way the governments of the world prioritize weapons—for armies, police forces, and private security companies—over feeding people. This is a deeply anarchist position, and this ideological stance is part of what ties FnB Victoria to the Anarchist Bookfair.

It is not only on the level of goals that FnB and the Anarchist Bookfair are aligned: FnB Victoria (and all chapters worldwide) also operate on anarchist principles: we strive to put in practice the world we wish to see. We are non-hierarchical, use consensus to make decisions, and work to make our cooks, serves, and clean ups (and all other elements of our operating) spaces where people can experience anarchism in practice. Because of the nature of our organization, and because FnB chapters are found worldwide, we are often the first place people come to when they’re looking to find anarchism in Victoria (whether they know it or not).

As members of an anarchist collective that is focused on issues around food (its production, distribution, and weaponization), we are committed to ongoing learning about issues that intersect with our mission and principles of unity. We are ever learning and changing.
